Default My summer project

Well i basicly wanted to get your ideas on this and wetaher it could be done

Okay heres the plan, Ipod dock in the bonny.

sounds stupid and simple at first but it gets better.

what i basicly want to do is build a dock directly into the center console of my 93 boneville when wired pluging it directly in it will charge and play music through the deck with no other wires. kind of like siting an ipod in one of the ipod stereo things

heres the kicker , when i replaced the old deck in my car i could never get the old volume controls and serch butons to work again, in my plan i want to re wire them so that i will be able to contol the track and the volume of my ipod from the stearing wheel

its all possible "i think" just alot of fabrication and tinkering but it would be so bad ***

It is possible. I have similar plans to build a dock into my bezel(below the stereo), and I know how to, it'* just a lack of time/money/effort. If you need help with anything post here, I'm sure there are tons of people that can help you out..

I've more less done the same thing in my car, different location though.

In the pocket of my radio dashkit I fabricated a channel to slide my iPod into, where the dock connector for my Alpine interface is attached to the back of the pocket. I grinded off the locking teeth from the connector, so I don't have to squeeze the sides of the plug to disconnect it.

Controling the iPod with your steering wheel controls isn't a big deal. It'* just a matter of selecting an aftermarket HU that either supports the use of a wireless infrared remote, or has a hardwired remote mini-jack connector on the back along with supporting the use of a dedicated iPod interface. The best interface on the market right now is the 2006 line of Alpine decks featuring the Full Speed iPod option. It by far has the most intuitive and responsive interface, along with being the cheapest route of accomplishing what you want to do.

So I'd suggest looking into buying
Alpine CDA-9856 or CDA-9857 headunits (but only the 9857 includes the wireless remote control, you'd have to purchase it seperately for the other one)
Alpine KCA-422i iPod dock cable
PAC SWI-X steering wheel control interface
then use your imagination on how to mount the dock cable in the location you desire

What I am going to do with mine is install the Sony HU I have in my Malibu into the Bonne. From there, I am going to use a PAC SWI-PS to interface the stereo with the steering wheel controls. Next is the interface between the stereo and the I-pod.

Building the cradle for the Ipod won't be easy, but I plan on putting it inside the armrest lid, and have it open from the front instead of the back.

But I am not doing ANYTHING to the sound system until it'* running.
