my opinion: you want SQ, do as you said, the type r'* are a AWESOME sounding set of speakers. If you are used to a rear stage, do it! go with what YOU want, the only one who has to lsiten and be happy with it.... is YOU, i told my ex this when she asked me what she should do to her car, i simply said "reasearch before you buy, listen to what you research, and get opinions, opinions and more opinions.... and do what YOU want, ultimatly your the one who has to be happy w/ it!" just my .02

I never said there was nething wrong with the type Rs i actually like them and at one time was going to sell my orions to buy some of the type R 15s. Alpine is actually one of my favorite companies because they make great sounding equipment that is dependable. im also curious about how that new pioneer premier is going to sound. I was there when they revealed it at last years db drag worlds finals, and was amazed by it. so let me know how it turns out

I want to jump in here. I don't have any 6x9'* and my ssei is setup for SQ. Read my signature. If you take them out, you will need some high end componets to create a good front sound stage though. I only have 2 10s (w7s) and 6.5 componets MB Quart Q-series) up front and it sounds like I'm at a concert. Idealy in SQ competitions you want everything to sound like it'* in front of you, judges base off where the voices/instruments come in compared to the center of the dashboard.
Anyways, idealy for SQ the rule is no rear fill, but I also agree with buy what YOU like/want. If your use to hearing 6x9'* than get them.
Just to throw it out there, There are many component sets that can be bi-amped. I did this off a JL 300.4 (75x4) and amped the midrange and tweets sepreate. This gives you great tuning abilities to lower the tweet and raise the mids to how you like it.

I just bought the 440 amp I mentioned before and the Type-R 6x9'*. They were out of stock on the Type-R components so I upgraded a hair more on got some Infiniti Kappa components.
Right now I have the passenger door and the rear deck done only. OMFG is this gonna rock. The 6x9'* have some tremendous bass and midrange in them. And the fronts you can crank all the way up and no distortion at all! I have only tweaked the deck a little and haven't even tried to tweak the amp yet. Tomorrow I will hopefully finish the install and get it all adjusted right.
The sub and sub amp are still comming. I was gonna get everything else in first so I got some sound in her before the custom sub/amp enclosure is done in the trunk.
