Default Low Budget Tip

If you are too cheap to pay for a 4 gauge power cable, you can save a ton of money by going to your local hardware store and buying 4 guage welding cable instead.

One time I was looking for 8-gauge stranded copper wire for an ammeter installation, but the largest I could find at the auto parts store was 10-gauge. I found 8-gauge at Home Depot instead (and cheaper, too). The matching 8-gauge eyelet connectors to be crimped and soldered on the ends came from Ace Hardware.

NEVER overpay for wire! You can always get it cheaper at a home improvement store. When we wired our home theatre system we boughty monster wire, only to look and see that it is mostly plastic, the plastic distorts the image to make the wire look huge. We went to Lowes and get larger gauge for less price. So dont be fooled by the stuff at electronics store!

Well, the expensive stuff is much higher quality and will effect your systems performace, RCA wire more than speaker wire and both more than the power wire. I find that the speaker cable is usually worth the extra price, and the cost of power wire can be lowered by buying wiring kits, which are kina expensive, but come with extra fun shiny stuff.

However, I do agree that you can get by cheaper for a budget system with other sources. So, i guess I'm just mumcling to myself... bah.

The high-dollar stuff may be good, but look at it this way...electrons don't know the difference. It doesn't matter how oxygen-free or whatever special high-tech characteristics a particular wire vendor says it is. I don't care if Mr Monster himself SHAT it out between his gold-plated butt cheeks, if I can get the bigger wire for a cheaper price at a home center, it will carry more current, therefor it will perform better.

As far as the RCA type cables, the philosophy is still true, but you DO gain some advantages with the bigger/better manufactures. In this regard, you get better shielding characteristics and precious metals plating on the connectors.

Couldn't say it better man. Why the heck would it make a diff. if your running 60 dollar power cable or 10 dollar cable like I got. All it has to do is carry power thru it, with that Monster and stuff you just buying a name. My freind had that Monster cable in his system and he got new equipment and has cheaper stuff now and he can't tell a diff.
