Default long cd seek time

my pioneer cd player takes near forever to find a track when turning the unit on, or when switching from radio, to cd. It takes over 15 seconds. You hear a whirling sound from the player, then a beep beep beep from the speakers, then the wirling again, etc until finally it finds the track then plays it. The factory radio would instantly start playing when switching from radio to cd, or turning the unit on. It finds tracks quickly though when browsing through tracks on a cd. any ideas? It'* driving me nuts how long it takes for cds to start playing.

how old is the unit? maybe a return the unit. I'd say if it'* having problem reading CDs i'd say shoot some air in there from a compressed can of air, but I dont think that'* y our problem.

Sounds like the laser pickup mech is stuck at home. It eventually unsticks itself. Shouldn't be a dirty lens if it works well once its playing. Tear it apart and see if it slids away from home easily.

the pioneer is probably close to 2 years old now. I'm pretty sure it was a 2003 model. Pioneer Premier DEH P550MP is the model. I"m sure it has a lot of hours on it though since I only listen to CD'*. I'd guess it probably has over 1,000 hours on it, easy.
