Default late 90'* Factory Pontiac CD Player with Aux input

Hi. First time posting on ANY forum. Please bear with me. I searched all over and did not find anything addressing this issue. Hopefully I did not miss it somewhere...

I just bought a 97 Bonneville SE with a factory cassette deck which has the old-fashioned equalizer sliders. I don't know much about this unit - whether it is anything special. The car has steering wheel radio controls, which is pretty cool.

I would like to replace the tape-deck with a factory CD player which also has an auxilary input for an Ipod. I see on eBay that Pontiac apparently offered one that looks very similar to the one I have in color (gray front w/ red lights) and in many other aspects. I have gathered that it came in T/A'*, but maybe other vehicles had it, too. The wiring harness connections on the back appear to be exactly the same as mine.

I was wondering if the cd/aux unit would slide right into my 97 and connect up easily so that my steering wheel controls would work with it as well. Thanks for any help anyone could give.

i believe the ones that have aux in'* are modified stock units, personally i would just get an aftermarket radio from crutchfield. if you spend over 130 they send you the adapters and stuff free. everything they have would be alot better then another stock radio. you can get ones that keep your buttons but they are more expensive.

Thanks. The car is actually my son'*. For now, he is content to use the tape-adapter with his ipod or with a portable CD-player. I suggested that he wait until the car is paid off before spending money on an audio upgrade. We'll see... Thanks, again.

Are you talking about the auxiliary input adapters that plug into the 9-pin connector on the rear of the radio chassis?
