My Infinity Ref. speakers would not be considered high-end, but more of an entry-level GOOD quality speaker. And I got most of mine through ebay at closeout stores at substantial discount over retail. I agree that a budget needs to be set in place as that ultimately determines the speakers you get. And when looking at them, keep in mind that you want to look for RMS wattage ratings...the lower they are, the easier a factory or a decent aftermarket headunit will power them w/o the need for an amplifier. Again, Pioneer is a good choice if you plan on going a non-amp route.

if you are doing 6x9's, I would say go with Diamond Audio D3's. Check out www.woofersetc.com they have good prices on almost all of the brands mentioned above.

Focal is my favorite. Their tweeters are smooth as silk. Their mids kick with authority. And their subs just plain pound. I've never been dissappointed by any of their products.
