I was looking at reviews on the kenwood kdc-hd545u and they seem pretty good but they are customer reviews. One thing is that bestbuy says it doesn't fit my car and crutchfield says it fits I guesse I will find out in a couple weeks when I go to put it in right now my door is torn apart cause im fixing my power windows would be convientent to change my speakers at the moment. Should the wireing in the car be ok or should I take it to a pro and have them wire the car?

I'd trust Crutchfield over Best Buy any day. Though, Crutchfield didn't believe that I had an 8 speaker Monsoon system.

Anyway, I rewired my entire car when I replaced all the audio. Given the year of your car, it would be better to do in my opinion.

The monsoon system with the external amp is a different story. At that point, when you upgrade to an aftermarket head unit, you almost have to rewire the whole thing because the factory system is so...integrated. Hers (or his?) should be fairly simple, so rewiring it wouldn't serve much of a purpose.

Installing a head unit is a matter of buying a radio harness. Basically you plug the radio harness into the plug that you take out of your head unit, and the other end into the new head unit, you screw it back in, and you're done. You may however need a dash kit, which is basically a piece of plastic that you insert in where the old radio used to be because the new radio might be thinner than the older one. I don't remember what an 88 Bonne had for a radio. Best buy should have both the harness and the dash kit you need.

Eh, I rewired mine because new wiring is always better. The installer said the new speakers would have been just fine without new wiring.

Well I would prefer not to drown on first outing I will start with the deck then the speakers before I ever try to re wire anything. I have done audio for homes and actually a couple of resturaunts in the city (SF) but cars is a whole new concept to me. thanks for your help. there is no need to rewire ur speakers. Ur not building a comp system or anything. Its a daily driver that u want to sound better. Ur car has a Din and a half HU opening... most aftermarket HU'* r single dins. U will need to get a installation kit to make a single din fit ur Din 1/2 opening. Its all real easy and can be done by a first timer with instructions

The way I did it is I ran all new wires to the door panels from the trunk, and now I have just amps powering speakers with the head unit only having power, ground, remote turn-on (antenna and amps), and RCAs. However, you should be just fine using your stock wires.

I say you should have a set of plates made to fit the 4x6 openings but then have a hole in the center for your tweeter. When you get component 6 1/2 speakers, they will have one input of + and -, and then there will be a crossover box to make sure the large speaker and the tweeter have the right signals going to them. Match up your door or tweeter wire colors to the wire colors on the back of the radio (do this once you get your adapter harness, and it'll make too much sense then), and use those two wires for the crossover box only, then run wires to the tweeter and the large speaker, and you're set in the front.

In the back, use the regular speaker wires for your new 6x9 speakers. See how that sounds, and I think it'll sound excellent. If you still feel like you need more bass, you should then get a woofer in the trunk. I don't really feel like I should have subs with my set of speakers (10 with tweeters counted individually, and 12 with subs counted), but it does help to have them with filtered-out bass for the cleanest possible sound at high volume levels. I really like it, and I think it works well for me, but I know there are more ways to achieve quality sound in a car and the subs just aren't necessary. Plus, this way saves you money!
