This would NOT be a good example of a "sharp cutoff" If you look closely the lower bright section is a "hot spot" and the light gradually diminishes. With a proper HID pattern, you'd have even lighting and a very sharp cut-off. The top of that building wouldn't be lit like that.

If you can get it for 50 bucks, grab it. I have HID'* and don't get flashed at all(except when I'm driving through bumfart USA where none of the hicks have ever seen HID'*). Projectors will still give off glare from the HID'* and that'* the biggest problem.
Yes, aftermarket HID kits are illegal but if you get any hassle I'd be surprised. There are so many cars out there with them that cops probably dont care much anymore.

Yeah, I'm sure that'* the case.... However, there'* an off chance on occasion I might "allow" my wife to drive the Bonneville so the car has to remain 100% legal.

my 96 SL600 has factory Xenon Lighting without projectors. projectors werent introduced till late 97. they are very purple-blue. never had a problem with police or such no one would know if they were factory or not.
