Ok, I am kind of a newbe at stereos and stuff and am just starting to understand it a bit. That out of the way.... I purchase a Pioneer DEH4600MP deck about a month ago and I love it. It has so many options on it though! I am kind of confused as how to set EQ settings. I have a basic EQ along with an advanced mode. I am having a tough time understanding how to set this thing up. Also how should I set my Q factor..... I have them all set at 2W (2 wide) and was wondering if that was ok. I know most people say that you should mess with it and I think I have it set about perfect but I'm not sure. My equalizer curve goes from high to low to high again. Does this sound right? Any feedback would be much apreciated. Thanks!

Whenever I tune my eq settings I go for the highest possible, without losing sound quality. My stock system has all the eq'* to the max, and there is still no distortion. You can mess with it, nothing wrong with that, but if you get some crappy sound at a certain volume, then you need to re-adjust it so you have a clean, crisp sound. chances are you won't be able to crank the eq all the way up like me, but you can surely try.

Our ears typically will hear midrange frequencies better than any other. This is to help us communicate better as human voices are in the midrange. I usually set my EQ settings so that the little slide things resemble a smile. Middle freq range is flat (neutral) and the others are increased more and more as the ranges move outward from the middle. Ending up with the lowest and highest frequency settings almost maxed.

It is all a matter of preference though. There is no "right" way to adjust an EQ.
