Do I need a cap?

I was just out riding in my car, and I did notice a slight dimming after all. The cap from Walmart is going in soon.

With 2500 watts, you should probably be running a 3 farad cap. I think its 1 farad for every 1000 watts.

Yup a farad for every 1,000 watts. But since everybody is preaching to use capacitors, how many people know wether its rated for 1,000 peak/1,000 continous. Even without having a system you can still make the lights dim just by using the power locks. The dim isnt as drastic but it can be noticeable if you are paying attention. If you do decide to just get a cap. Dont be mad when you still burn out your alt.

I think the caps are rated for PEAK wattage.
1 Farad for every 1000 watts peak.
