Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Default Try and figure this one out!

So I installed my old deck in the '96. All went fine and dandy. Turned the car on, and it worked just fine. Except every 3-5 minutes the sound would cut out but the deck would keep operating normally. The sound will not return until you cut the power and turn in back on. Then everything works fine until the sound goes out again. I tried 2 different decks with the same result. Happens in both acc. and run. What in the world would cause something like this to happen? (And no, it didn't happen with the stock deck).

I'm lost...

Is that the little bugger that is hanging underneath the deck? Why would that cause things to work perfect and then stop in a couple minutes? What am I going to need to do exactly?

yes the amp is the thing that hangs under the HU.

I do not know why it would cut out, were you driving?

Doesn't matter if I'm driving or just running in accessory. It seems that it will stay on for much longer (or permanently) at a quiet volume, and cuts out more frequently when it'* loud. Is something wired wrong and the amps are shutting down for protection or something? I have no idea whats going on...

if that amp is in line with the speaker wires somewhere it could be overloading the decks amplifier, and it gets hot inside and trips a protection mechanism in the deck. try running wires directly to the back speakers. and see what happens. the original deck didnt do it because it was designed to work with it.
