hi i have a 1988 sse and my stereo was recentley robbed. my question is can i screw my sub box and my amps directley down to the metal floor in my trunk ? i do not no if the gas tank or anything electrical or important is right under there. its the only way i can think of to stop them from robbing my car again. that and i also want to totally take out my trunk lock cylinder and cover the lock whole with a metal plate which wont be seen because the 88 sse has a trunk lock cover with the pontiac logo on it that would cover the metal and i already disconnected my trunk release from my glove and threw it out. and my other idea besides bolting everything down is to take out the trunk lock and cover the hole so they cant get in my trunk with a flat head screwdriver again and just use the automatic trunk release from my 2 way alarm remote when ever i need to get in my trunk. i also already put door lock guards on both drivers and passanger door. looks horrible as **** but i was forced to do it so i got them in chrome so they match the rims..

Yes, you can bolt it down. Check your clearances though for fuel lines, tank, etc....

As far as putting a plate over the lock, pick up a spare trunk lid for cheap, unbolt the lock assembly and pull it out. Pick up a freeze plug the diameter of your lock hole and have it welded in. Grind down the welds to smoothness, then filler to smooth it out. Finally, paint and install.

I agree, just check the clearance for the gas tank which is under the trunk..

Best thing to do is just build to the box so big that it must be assembled in the car. Yeah its a PITA but they wont be able to take it out. Then strip the bolts so they cant unscrew them easily.

88bonnsse I think you owe Richard V an appology. That was completely uncalled for. Sure you may be pissed and his post may not have answered your question but he has a valid point. If you live in a shitty area, shitty things are bound to happen. If you compete you are advertising your car, what did you expect to happen?

Yeah it sucks, but it is still no reason to get your panties in a bunch and take it out on someone else for a harmless comment on the INTERNET!

bolting down would help and also you could build false walls to hide amps and even speakers if you want to...You should also invest in an alarm with a 2 way pager so that way you can always know whats going on with it. You can also add the interior alarm sirens, where it will put out high pitch noise when they set the alarm off, so you could pop one of those in your trunk. Hope some of these suggestions will help.

o.k . richard v i am sorry for snapping at you its just that it took me 4 years to build up that stereo they stole and its not like its easy to go buy another system because i have a new 4 month old son and a beautiful 4 year old daughter and they are growing fast and clothes are expensive...lol

You might also consider increasing your insurance coverage in case such an unfortunate situation should arise again. I did this for some non-factory installed electronics in my car and it only increased my annual premium by about $30.00. My policy also covers any damage that may be caused by a theft.
