Default Can I get away with a 160 amp altenator or should I go biggr

I wanted to know can I get away with upgrading to a 160 amp (or should I go for the 200 amp) altenator, because my amps are power hungry and I already have a cap, but my needle still goes down into the red. Also my trunk gets extremly hot and I want to know if anybody is running any fans or cooling systems for their amps.

Kip,

Something else is wrong. I have no caps and I'm running four Punch 200x2'* (close to 1500 watts) off of my stock alternator in an SSE. You may want test your battery.

I am running a 200 amp alt in my '95 ssei. I did have minimal voltage drop from my stock alt while running a few smaller amps. I installed the 200 amp (comes with a slightly smaller pulley too) and it is working great now. I plan on putting in a huge system in the next year so I wanted to be ready for it since I needed a new alt anyways. I got mine from www.domesticperformance.com .

This is not meant to be offensive but the real reason your pulling so many amps is cause your amp are cheap. Sony and pioneer aren't the best out there. If you got Rf'* or MTX, your system would play twice as loud and cleaner with less wattage. The amps you have are rated sucking alot of power and the better amps are rated using around 12.3 volts.
I would also changed the sub set up . If they are not properly phased out , you may just be canceling you sound out.
Sell you amps on ebay and get MTX, If it'* not louder. then it'* your subz. They suck too. You should get sealed box for your trunk. A band pass is tooooooooo big for your trunk. It won't breath properly.
Youd be surprised how many carz I shut down with just 1 12"
