Default Buick AM radio problem

I get nothing but static on AM radio while engine is running. It is perfect when in accessory and engine is not running. I don;'t have clue.

Default What car is it?.

What car do have your problem in?, if it has points ignition the solution may differ to an electronic setup.
Let us know what car you have, the more information you provide the easier it is to give an informed diagnosis of the problem.

I believe you can get an am signal booster. Its a powered wire that mounts on our front or rear windshield. I installed a ton of them in cars that got wireless satelite radio. Hope this helps!

Try removing the alternator belt and running the engine.

if the power antenna wire is spliced with the remote wire then it should boost the signal with the radio being turned on period. They have always worked in all of my customers cars

I first suspected the alternator, but the static AM problem occurs when the engine is not started. I took a good portable AM radio and placed in on the passenger seat. I tuned to a good AM station (if there is such a thing) and that radio was perfect until the ignition switch was turned on. It knocked that signal identical to the installed radio, There is no similar effect to FM or XM. I have an appointment at the dealership and will post that outcome. Tghanks

Dealership did not have much luck today. They did discover that it works fine if the 10 amp fuse controlling the heat & ac is removed. The vehicle is a 2005 buick Rendevous

my grandfather had the same issue when he owned the century. he had an aftermarket radio installed and it seemed to fix the problem. but given that your portable one crashed too im not sure if it would fix your problem.
