Blew a speaker, ought to replace that.

One of the cheap aftermarket speakers in the rear blew today. It'* got that awful hair-raising static at any decent volume. I was obviously rocking too hard.

Any recommendations for a pair of 6x9'* that sound good, can handle loudness, and won't break the bank?

I've got an aftermarket head unit, if that matters. No amplifier installed, but I do have an old one kicking around I could use if need be.

Kinda depends on which bank you go to. I took a plunge of sorts and followed the advice of some friends and went Boston Acoustics. On Amazon/Ebay they were reasonably priced. I tend to push them pretty hard at times (ok..about half volume) and they take it very well.

I love my hertz speakers, and for your setup would say the energy series would probably be perfect. They come with a 3 year warranty so you can jam as hard as you want!

I've done unspeakable things to my Millies and they just keep on cranking.

I have the practically identical DB690'* for the rear of my car. A few things to note about these.

You cannot run them off of an aftermarket head unit. They need a dedicated amp and you need to give them at least 50W RMS each.

These don't play very well below 100hz. Their bass response is very limited. I tried it for a while and ended up having to buy a sub. If you don't have a sub, these are not your best choice as you will not be satisfied with their bass output.

Sound quality. I only need filling-vibrating loudness; ear-bleeding'* too much for me.

For what it'* worth, the head unit is capable of "20 W RMS x 4 channels at 4Ω." The amp in my closet, if it even works (can't beat free), is a four-channel one capable of 50 W RMS and 100 W peak per channel.
