Default Audio screech!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My '07 G6 (soon to have an '08 head unit swap, to gain an aux port) was giving off a horrid screech through the rear speakers - so bad that you could hear it outside the closed car. I have the Monsoon system, and understand it has a factory amp in the passenger-side trunk area. While the screech was a great way to rid myself of the wife, I found it less than soothing. Could that be my factory amp going bad? And is the factory amp seperate and located in the trunk?

Thank you in advance, my fine, motorheaded friends,
Tom

If it'* just the rear speakers, it could be a bad amp, or a bad connection for the amp, be it a corroded ground, chaffed wire, etc.

It doesn't seem to be tied to engine rpms - it just comes on at some point after starting the vehicle, and slowly increases in frequency, until it reaches a high point - it varies little from that high note, and continues after I turn the car off and remove the key. This happens on rare occasions, and last time I pulled the amplifier fuse in the trunk to make it stop.

sounds like the amp is going out then, i would find the ground for it and try cleaning that first. if that doesnt help it seems likely the amp.

2 last questions:
1) Is the amp in the trunk, or the passenger-side footwell?
2) Will there be a wire nearby that grounds to the body, does the amp chassis ground to the body through it'* mounting bracket, or does it have a ground lead that goes back through the harness and grounds out upstream somewhere?

Before this all started, I did notice increasing amounts of smaller 'sound' events - shorter, and more like hiss - from other speakers before this started.

1 trunk, along the right side
2 goes off in a harness to g301 with a bunch of others
the manual doesnt have a pic for that it just says
"AT the right rear of the passenger compartment, under the right rear seat back"
