Aiwa has declined a lot over the years. I think sony was on the same path and their sales suffered so they had to straighten up or lose money.

Hmmm... You guys are giving me a wealth of information!! I'm glad I've become a member here!! Looks like I'll probably be shopping around for some different items; I've taken the Sony Explod 4x6s back and am looking to get either Pioneer or Infinity speakers. I think you may be right about the Amp as I've had it fixed twice since buying it new; once under warranty and just recently by paying for it. :( At least the box and woofers are okay for now I'll keep you posted on the progress (what there is of it!) of the audio install.

Glad we could help. I would like to know when you bought that amp. Maybe i was wrong and sony will never straighten up on anything.

This will be the 3rd year of ownership; I got it in April 2001. I might sell the headunit and get another one as well :(

They have only started to improve thier amps in the past year or 2. I actually like some of their high end head units but im not sure how good they are or how long they would last

Sony recievers in the house? Blah! Sony Speakers in house or garage? Blah.

Sony HU'* are fine. ES electronics is just as good as anything else in the price range. If ES is an option then you're good.

As far as the Amp cable, I drilled mine on the pass side on the lower firewall. Make sure you use a rubber grommet and try to use the largest AWG you can afford. I say at least 4AWG. You will thank me later when you upgrade. Oh, and make sure that you are drilling in a spot that is clear of fuel, a/c, electrical lines.
