Default 92 vs 94 stock cd player (internal adjustments?)

I bought a cd player off eBay a while back. Its build date is September 94. I just bought a cd player from rasta man 27. Its build date is September 92. Model numbers are different.

The 94 works fine, steering wheel controls work, all the buttons function, but it does not seem to get any radio reception. It also has a "spike" on the back that the 92 or my stock tape deck don't have.

The 92 works and looks flawless.

Is there something different about a 94 that would prevent my 92 antenna lead from working? Or did the eBayer send me a faulty unit?

IIRC they used the same antenna plugs, and as long as your antenna turn on lead is hooked up correctly it should work?

Yep, same connector. I switched back and forth between the two players. The 92 got perfect reception, the 94 got none at all.

I'm assuming your antenna is up? Then somewhere between the antenna lead and what would be the "pre-amp" in the unit is broken. Might be a part you could swap between the two if you like the 94 that much more.

No, the 92 is much cleaner and works just fine. I was just hoping to be able to sell the 94 in working condition.

Another odd thing... I've heard the antenna was supposed to go down if you were using the cd player or tape deck. I'd never even tried the tape deck, but the antenna stays up when I'm using the cd.

Maybe I could swap the connection from my stock tape deck.

Maybe the tuner is bad in the HU? Not sure though it'* just a thought.

Some wiring may be different? I know some radio things changed between 93 and 94 like the ECC did. The wiring dealing with sound may be ok, but the turn on lead may not be right?

Cross referencing the two years may be good.

The antenna does go up and down with the power like it should.

Ok, I've got this thing apart with the hopes of swapping the tuners from it and the base tape deck of the 93 SE. I can't do that because the external connnections are different. The main board of my stock tape deck will mount up, though.

But what I did find was adjustments internally on the tuner. FM ANT, FM RF, FM MIX, TV, OSC, one unlabeled, then under that little cover I find two more unlabled ones.

Anyone know anything about these?
