Hi guys, I'm wondering how the speakers are wired in the 89 bonneville. The install instructions that came with my JVC deck says not to connect it to speakers that have a common ground or a ground that doesn't return to the deck or it will cause damage to the deck basically this is how the wiring should be:

Where <> is the deck, O is the speaker and === is the +/- wires.

Ok so are the speakers wired correctly in my car or what? Also I've been reading stuff about an amp in the car, do the 89'* have an amp? Thanks guys.

SE'* dont have amps if you have an SSE you might... that thing about dont share a common ground is a bunch of ****. I run mine that say dont run a common ground fine off my HU. You should be safe hooking them up as they came off.

I agree with RussianPolar.. ground is just a ground.. that would be like saying.. I won't be hit by lightening if I move my *** from the public area onto a private property in a thunderstorm. However the only thing I can think of why they MAY say that is it may pick up RF noises from a noisey ( bad) ground.. but at the speaker level.. I don't think it would..

heh. you guys missunderstand the common ground thing. Don't worry, no Bonneville (or any GM cars that I know of) use this type of system.. A common ground is a setup where the stereo only has Positive leads coming from it that connect to the speaker, then the negative goes to the frame of the car, instead of back to the radio. The only company I know of that does this common ground setup is FORD.

is the amp the thing under the deck that says "gain". i just toke that thing out when i put my alpine and amps in.

If you have the gain control then you have the factory subwoofer amplifier.
