Default 3 channels from 4 ch amp

I understand that you can run 3 channels from a 4 channel amp........how is this wired? I would be running components in the front doors and one 12" sub. general answer i guess....does it depend on the amp you have?

If you run the front two channels to your front speaks and the back 2 channels to your sub then you will have good power and even sound... to do this you should bridge out the remaining 2 channels to your sub :? ... If thats what you want... I think I understood you right...

I understand that part as far as wiring out of the amp to the speakers. What I don't understand is how to wire TO the amp from the stock head unit, i.e. can I just T off of the rear channel wires going to my rear 6x9'* (for the sub channels)?
Thanks
