Something else to consider with your setup, I would assume that the less speakers you try to power over that already tiny factory speaker wiring the better.

But like has been stated, if only the mid levels are going to the front door 6.5" and the rear door 5.25" - is there any advantage to using a 2 way instead of a 3 way?

And I assume only the lower levels are going to the 6x9 in the rear deck? So a 2 way or 3 way there...?

And, obviously, only the highs are going to the tweeters in the upper door.

Is it OK to use a 3 way in the lower front door 6.5" and keep the tweeter in the upper door (manly because it'* easier just to leave the tweeter where it is...)?

There is no such thing as a 3 way 6.5" component speaker, right...?

Ok, why are we discussing this across 2 threads? Please keep all the speaker technical questions in this thread. Asking questions across 2 threads is confusing people. Use your other Install thread for the actual car itself.

Correct, but you are talking about replacing a single driver (1 speaker) with a tweeter, mid range, and woofer (3 speakers in one). You would be powering 3 speakers rather than just 1.

No, component are individual speakers. A 3 way speaker is a 3 in 1 with built in crossover.

Argh... this is really confusing to someone who knows nothing about it...

So, then, I should go with 2 ways, instead of the 3 ways...?

First off, we need to establish a few things.
1. We already know its difficult to find speakers that will work with the Monsoon amp, so, are you for certain you are going to bypass the factory amp?

2. If you are bypassing the amp, it won't really matter if you get 2 way or 3 way speakers. Let'* just keep this simple. 3 way speakers produce better sound than 2 way. That'* all you need to know. And yes, they cost different.

3. Your stock head unit will not drive those higher quality 2 way or 3 way speakers properly. So, you will either need another amp, or upgrade your head unit.

After all this, if it still confuses you, you may want to actually go to a reputable store and talk with a specialist.

NO, that is just the point - I do NOT want to bypass the Monsoon amp...

I am looking to just switch out the factory speakers to new aftermarket speakers.

And I am told that I need 2 ohm speakers to do that.

I found the JBL GTO series of speakers that are 2 ohms.

There are both 2 way speakers and 3 way speakers available in the GTO series for the front 6.5" - if I want to go just with the door speakers and leave the factory tweeter in the door.

Then there is a 6.5" component speaker - if I want to replace the tweeter as well - the problem here is that Crutchfield told me that the tweeter was a 4 ohm speaker...

Then there are the rear 6x9 - that I can either get in 2 way or 3 way...

The rear door 5.25" - only comes in a 2 way speaker.

.
