Window Regulator Replacement
Hi Guys,
I just wanted to drop a post on a common topic - those so reliable window regulators from GM.
Anyway, I have had two rear regulators that had broken for quite some time. I have been holding my two rear windows up with locking pliers for the past 2yrs.
I decided to take a chance on the company out of New York called Mirror Guard Co.

I placed an order with them to repair my regulators, pre-paid via PayPal, boxed the two regulators up and shipped them via UPS. They charge $75 per regulator to fix them and ship them back to you for free (included in the price).
They turned my order around in one day! I received the repaired regulators, installed them and they work great! They appear to be bolting a bracket onto the white plastic guide that normally fails in these regulators. If any of you have taken your regulator out and took a close look at it, the failure point is the white plastic slider that is suppose to retain the two cables that pull the window up or down. Over time, this white plastic slider'* retaining clip breaks under the load of the two cables that pull. Their repair is to bolt a metal bracket onto the plastic slider. So, to me, they are probably stronger than the original GM part (in my opinion).
Oh, and this was for a 2002 Bonneville SE with 160k miles.
Anyway, just wanted to let other owner'* know they have very good service and their product seems to work great.
Oh and by the way. I did try to perform the fix that is posted in the forum (building your own metal clip). My cables were just too twisted and gnarled up. But, the fix does appear to work if your cables haven't been chewed up as much as mine.

There is a fix in Techinfo that could have saved you a few bucks.

the repair in the tech info involves replacing the black clip with a metal clip that provides the retaining feature that the broken white clip can't provide anymore...
Mirror Guard'* repair is a metal bracket that is bolted onto the white slider to provide the retaining feature. The black clip is not modified with their repair method.
Like I said in the early post, I was able to make the metal clip as shown in the tech info article. It is a good fix. I just couldn't ever get my cables to wind back up into the housing. The cables were pinched, frayed, and really screwed up... I dont' think my repair would have been a long term fix using the homemade bracket, unless I had also replaced the cables.
The cables in the Mirror Guard regualtor don't have any kinks in them at all. They appear to be new and maybe even a little thicker than the GM regulator cable.
It did cost some extra cash, but still much better than buying another badly designed regulator from GM.

Well it finally happened to me. :( A broken rear regulator that is. I sent it out to the Mirror Guard Co as recommended in this thread for repair. I will post pictures when I get it back for all to see how it was done if anyone is interested.

Another option is to buy new aftermarket regulators on ebay. I got mine there for my 00 SLE and they are definitely of higher quality. Metal parts replace the factory parts. WIN-WIN IMHO. I only paid like $55 for each of mine including shipping and I didn't have to send mine to them.
