Default What is the final word on Keyless entry remote programming?

I know this has been beat to death for the 99'* and older but I have looked at every post and everything in the TECHINFO and there are mixed opinions on how to program your own remotes for the 2000'* and newer.

One user is adamant that you have to go to the dealer and get them to program your remotes but I came across another post that tells how to do it yourself, starting off with removing a BCM PRGRM fuse.

So what'* the final word on programming a 2001 Keyless entry remote?

...and on a related topic where can I find info on programming your own PK3 key after you get it cut?

Thanks,

Paul.

There is a learn procedure for the new key once it is cut. You will get it cut at a dealership (only legal place anyway) and they can give you the procedure. Takes like 30 seconds and involves turning the key to on a few times without starting the car. I don't remember exactly as its been a while since I did mine.

The DIC information can only be programmed with a tech 2.

I've never programmed my FOB'* so i'm not sure of its procedure.

However, to customize your DIC display, you do have to go to a dealer for that. For example, remote 1 could say "Paul" and remote 2 could say "Paula" on the DIC.
The memory of seat position, radio, mirrors etc I have done already and works great.

Concerning the DIC, I saw tha I can change the driver name and I may have that done some day but I was refering to the Keyless remotes and how to program them in to the memory of the car.

How do you program a new remote to be recognized by your car?

That'* what I am asking, who knows the learn procedure?

A locksmith who is selling SK3 blanks on eBay indicates that any good locksmith should be able to cut a key, he is also sending the learn procedure with the key. My local dealership want'* $100.00 for a new key and programming, no thanks.

Getting a key cut, and getting a key FROM a hardware store are two different things.

How much did you pay for your key?
