Default Water in Trunk

I have recently purchased a 2000 SSEI. We had a very heavy rain on Friday and I noticed that the insulation on the inside of the trunk lid was water soaked. Any suggestions?

humm... maybe the gasket around the the opening thats gone bad.. put a lil thin coat of white grease around it to keep it moist ( and not crack ) and helps seals a bit better. I've also noticed on Muffins 00 SSEI that the rear deflector area doesn't drain properly on the trunk lid.. ( i.e. when you open it.. you'll see it drain from the top but when you lower it it doesn't drain from the bottom ).

Another thing you may want to try also is simply loosen the bolt on the trunk clam on the lid.. push it up a lil so you need more force to close it... this will also put more pressure on the seal and make a tighter seal.

This may solve it.. or may not.. you may have a more serious gasket sippage leak.. but try it and let us know and we can go from there.

Trunk Area Water Leaks #01-08-57-005. This is the title & number of the TSB that may or may not address the problem that you're having. The four areas that are called out: CHMSL lamp gasket (high brake light on decklid), decklid rear applique not seated correctly, rear spoiler retaining nuts loose, sheet metal welds behind rear applique. I don't know if any of this info will help, but it'* a starting point.

Took it to the dealer and they say that they have corrected it. Said that it was leaking around the taillight lens. They replaced gaskets and resealed with silicone.

Default Leak...

If all else fails, and you have a moonroof, check the drip rail. If it'* clogged with debris, like mine was you might get water from that.
