Hi everyone, new to the forum. The spare tire well has an accumulation of approximately one inch of water. The pad underneath the trunk carpet (fiber material) over the spare tire is completely drenched, and signs of carpet being wet around the perimiter inside the trunk. It rained heavily this past weekend. The car does not have a sunroof. Has anyone experienced this, or a similar problem. Trunk seal appears intact, need ideas. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Usuall culprits are Rear Window Glass Lower Reveal Molding: Rear Deck Lid Seal; loose or missing welds around trunk area.

There is a service bulletin out for 2000-2002 trunk area water leaks. The number is 01-08-57-005 which identifies probs with water entering trunk when deck lid is opened. I've localized the source of my leak to the upper right tail light area. It'* in the area of the drain hole up there at the end of trough at right tail light. Some of the seam seals interior trunk are suspect. I temporarily used plumbers putty to stop leak into trunk. Any suggestions on what material to use for a permanent fix, or is plumbers putty acceptable I wonder?

My 2000 SE was getting water in the trunk. I noticed wet carpet on the drivers side (side wall). There was also water in the spare tire well, which I guess collected from the carpet over time?

I took it to the dealer who told me that the drain (or drip rail) from my sun roof was plugged with crap. They cleaned it and it'* been bone-dry ever since.

I had major problems with this on my 2000, but the 2002 hasn't had the problem. I "fixed" my 2000'* problem by removing the rubber plugs on the bottom rear edge of the trunk lid. Seems there was water gathering in between the trunk skin from a bad spoiler install at the factory. Whenever I opened the trunk lid, water would pour out of the carpet on the lid.

My 2002 seems to have holes in the rubber plugs, and a redesigned method of mounting the spoiler.

Man I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this problem. Not that I wish it on anyone! After a long heavy or driving rain if I open my trunk the water pours out from under my tail light into my trunk. Last time I cleaned out under my spare, I had a small pool in my spare well. I definately need to do something about it.

Same here, after I got my 2000 SE back from the body shop. (Rear Ended) I had a very big problem with water in the trunk. After it would rain, When I pop the trunk, water would flow from the trunk lid carpet into the trunk like a waterfail. After 4 visit back to the body shop. One guy notice that 2 small welds on both sides of the trunk lid edge by the bottom of the plastic clover on the trunk lid above the bonnville name were left open. After that the only problem now is just a little water when it opens. I guess it one of those things they missed in the design dept. Holla Back :? ........

Since before I purchased mine, when I looked at it on the dealers lot and popped the trunk it has leaked. The car was BRAND NEW and it did this. The salesmen told me he would fix this by the time I came to pick it up. That didn't last at all. I pulled the 2 rubber plugs in bottom of trunk lid for the time. When I had a chance later on I removed the wing on the trunk lid and what a project that was. Whatever type of double sided tape they use it is as strong as a weld I put new sealer around all the mounting holes and new double sided tape across the edge of the wing. I re-installed the rubber plugs in the trunk lid as a test. The trunk stayed dry for a month or two then leaked again. I removed the plugs and that is where I am now with the problem l
