Default Voltage Drop

I was driving my Bonnie in some heavy rain today and as I pulled up to a stop my lights went really dim. I looked at my voltameter and it was about two below the 14 mark. It sat like this for about five seconds and there was a slight squeel and it jumped back to normal. It'* done this several times and it only happens in heavy rain. Anybody else have this problem or have any idea what could cause it?

I bet the sqeal was belt slip, which caused your alternator to slow down for a few seconds. Happened to my mom'* 00 or 01 SE in wet weather

its more than likely belt slip, it happens to me quite often in heavy rain.. usually accompanied by a light squeal at teh end of it

Definitey! Combination of old, glazed belt and water intrusion. If you belt is relatively new find out the source of the water. I've found that the 2000+ splash shields stink compared to earlier Bonne'*.

x2

Mine does this sometimes when I go to the car wash (under-carriage spray) or if I drive through a really big puddle at speed. I think it'* just the water getting under the belt and causing it to slip. Then the water dries up, and causes the squeel when the belt slips on the alternator, etc...

I was driving around in a good rain last night (97 Bonne) and had this happen to me several times, to say it was annoying is an understatement. Is there any fix for this? My belt is almost brand new. Any belts better, new alternator, etc????

PS. I know this is for a 97 but its the same issue, mods move if necessary

it appears that the 2000+ bonnevilles do not have adequate splash shielding around the belt, but i dont see it being much more than an occasional annoyance
