So, the security light you're talking about is the yellow one on the dash that flashes when you open the door, not anything displayed on the DIC about the security/theft system? That one would be for the pass-key security for the ignition system - whether or not the car starts and runs, not for the alarm on the car.

hmm any idea what it can mean? never had a problem starting the car. its odd..out of 6 or so times I've driven the car now its gone on twice...both after 5 minutes. well...at least until I noticed it.

I dont know anyone with a tech II...I'm checking with the university here tomorrow if thats my only option.

Have you checked all the usual suspects? Hood pin switch and trunk switch?

On the ground lug issue, please use your veteran search skills. "ground lug" by Archon.

what are you talking about? I know he talked about the ground strap for the MAF sensor as well as the ground bolts that hold the fuse boxes down...is ther something else I'm missing? is the fuel sender just grounded to the fuse box or the chassis? I'm assuming fuse box.

The grounding strap coming off from the battery is bolted through the floor pan under the back seat. It appears that will be one of the weak spots in the 2000+ series cars for the electrical system. It is bolted to a painted surface, and neither the lug or the bolt are very large. The bolt extends out the bottom of the car, so rust starts to build up. It would be a good idea to remove that bolt, and clean it and the threads in the floor pan as good as you can. I also used a star washer under the lug to help bite through the paint for a better connection.

Also check out the demo vehicle at http://www.alldatadiy.com/ One of them is a 2003 Bonneville that should have all the information on grounding points and other useful information.

My suggestions of the hood pin and trunk switch were because you were talking about the security light.
