I was looking under the rear seat and saw a small amount of corrosion dust at the bottom of the battery, AND there was a speck of fluid going down each side of the battery just below the vent tube. The vent tubes are pushed on securely. Is this normal for it to weep a little?

That doesn't sound good... is it the orig? I think I'd change that out before I had a problem.
It'* a "cheap" fix.

Just remembered, you have to make sure it'* the correct battery for the car. I think I read it has to vent thru tubes to the underside of car.

Yeah, it'* the original. (car only has 30K miles). I will inspect it more today or tomorrow and see where the water is coming from. I've had terrible luck with AC/Delco batteries leaking.. 2 others have leaked out the positive terminal, that'* the reason I check this stuff.

I was just curious if a tiny bit of corrosion is normal.. Are y'alls battery area under the seat completely clean..??

...I changed my original battery in Oct (6 1/ 2 yrs old) with 60k miles on it. It was clean.

I would go ahead and inspect the vent tubes also. mine developed small crack after having the same problem.
Edit: check to see if the acid has ran around the top to the terminals. and my leak in the positive termal started about the same time.

Even a little bit of corrosion is not normal! Obviously you have an acid leak causing the corrosion; you've seen the leak/weep. I'd say you have one or more plates failing causing a larger load on the remaining plates............thus the plate overheating and slight boiling over.

I recently took on the challenge of replacing the battery in my friends Monte Carlo - 96.
Nice car, but the battery died... littlte did I know I had to disassemble half the engine compartment. ANYWAY, I tried to take off the positive terminal and snap!! The lead disc and nut that is pressed into the battery came off as if it were one unit with the retaining bolt. Again, ANYWAY, I was told that GM had a bolt that was just a tick too long and cracked the lead leading to a small, slooooow leak that eventually - even years later, spells doom for your battery. It was leaking around the terminal and was slightly corroded. I really think you should get a new battery before you have issues. I agree that no leaking is good leaking.

How is your battery staying power? If you have the flashers on or the radio on for a little while, does it need a jump?

Corrosion is not normal. My oem battery area under the seat is completely clean. Any weeping is not normal. When you get the new battery, clean the area well with baking soda prior to installing battery.

Found my problem. Pulled the battery out of the Bonny today. For the THIRD time, a piece of crap AC/DELCO battery is leaking on me!! I can't believe this! Two truck batteries and now this one.

EVERYONE, needs to check under their rear seat once in a while IF you still own the original AC/DELCO battery. They are absolutely the cheapest battery'* on the market in my opinion and many others have had problems. Over in the truck forums, we talked about leaking battery'* and the brand name was the same. Please listen to what I am saying here and remember to check!!

Again, this is a 03 Bonny with 30K miles kept in a garage..

Now, my question, what keeps this battery from rubbing all the paint off of the floorboard of the car? Should I use a thin rubber mat or something?
