Default Transmission Tag

I am looking for a new trans for my 2000 SSEi, and the yard asked me what my trans tag says and what color it is. They said there are 2 letters on it, such as "YS". My Bonneville is buried in snow and I'm not able to go look. Does anyone know or understand what I am looking for and be able to tell me what a transmission from a 2000 SSEi would say on the tag?

Thank you!!

Unfortunately there'* a couple different transmissions that were used in 2000 because it was one of the years where changes were made. Therefore the tag is kinda important from that perspective. The tag would be visible from under the passenger side of the car if looking up at where the passenger axle enters the transmission.

Any dealership should be able to tell you the information you need if you gave them the VIN #. How'* that? (kinda surprised I thought of that one )

Wouldn't it be easier to call the dealership?

The vin is located on the registration.. which you crazy NJ'ers keep in your wallets.

Dig out the reg.. call dealer and you should be all set.

My reg is in my car, my title is in a safety deposit box. I've got to dig to it anyway, easier to look at the trans then try to get a dealer around me to help. I used to work for Ford as a Service Adviser and we could not stand when people called to get info on their VINs, especially if they weren't customers.

But thank you for your help. I just wanted to see if there was an easier way around this.

Ok.. how about one last ditch effort to help here...

Search *****: ... find the link to the site where it decodes the vin for a car and lists all options etc.. Post that link here for JG. From the vin this could do the trick.

Why is your reg in the car? NJites always have it in their wallet...which is odd to anyone from another state..lol

I tried that and got

TRANSMISSION AUTO 4 SPD, 4T65-E, HEAVY DUTY 4-SPD A/TRANS(MN7)

Apparently I need to see either FCB or CXB or FXB after the MN7 which will only be stamped on the trans.

Oh well, worth a shot! Thanks!
