God i hate repair shops. I got 6 or 7 estimates and they were all $1400 to $1600 + hard parts. Got the car back and it drives good and all, but it set me back $2700(ouch), $1150 labor and $1400 parts. I also got an 24,000# tranny cooler so hopefully it won't get hot up in the mountains(up to 10,000' high). 12 items under $100, the torque converter was only $200. I have to call the shop to see what an "internal harness 35D-167A" is, it cost $116. I have the filter that came off of the tranny, it has 164,000 miles on it. We will bring it to the WCBF so we all can dissect it. They said they were surprised the tranny had that many miles on it with out ever touching it. Well Cindy just got back from a test drive and she thinks she got some 2nd gear wheel spin(GOD help this tranny).
That'* excellent Rod.

That must have been a very thorough rebuild.

I bet if you used INTENSE parts......I have drooled and had to tie down my enter finger for a $4,000 order ........so with $1200 worth of labour, it could have cost over five grand

So many miles and you never changed fluid or the filter
AND you live in a hot climate with no oil cooler besides the stock rad with a 195F cooling temp.

I want to see that filter

2nd gear wheel spin.

Not only did i not ever drop the pan , i did not have to add any ATF to it until just about 2 months ago. If it don't leak it (the ATF) you can't add it. Yes i'm curius to see whats inside of that filter so i can do this
Paul, it don't get to hot down here, i think the hottest the car has seen is 114* f, i don't know what that is in your funny temp.

114F is not that hot.

My car has not seen over 80F except the 4 times it'* been to Oregon.

......and I change my fluid and filter every year.

Well...I guess I will just jump into this thread rather then start a new one...My 2000 Bonneville SSEi had the trans rebuilt at 175K for alot of the same reasons listed above...it lost overdrive first...drove it for quite awhile missing high gear...then it got erratic shifting and finally it wouldn't pull in forward gears...enough to move it into the garage but not enough to drive...so I removed the transmission and had it rebuilt by a company I use for other jobs in Indy...they said it had a broken band and it wiped out the electroncs harness...total rebuild with a new convertor cost me around 900.00...that was 50K ago and friday it quit with absolutely zero notice...my son inherited the car from me and he is pretty car aware...he checks his fluids regularly and said he had no indication it was having any problems...he was waiting on a friend to go to the movies and they were sitting in a parking lot with the engine running and in Park...when he went to back out of the spot he placed it in reverse and he said it wouldn't move an inch...so he pulled down in drive and it just sat there...he thought maybe the shift cable had broken or come unattached...he checked that and said it was moving the lever like normal...and so he put it in neutral and pushed the car and it rolled like it was in neutral...he then placed it back in park and it wouldn't roll...he cycled threw all forward gears and reverse and noted it doesn't make any sounds like the trans is even engaging...so I pulled it home yesterday and checked the fluid...it was full and smells and looks completely normal...possibly pump??...So tonight I am going to remove the lines going to the cooler and put them in a bucket and start the engine for a few seconds to see if fluid sprays out...if it does I would say no to the pump being the issue...does anyone know where I can view a blow up of the trans??...I am pretty handy and not afraid to do something to it myself if I know what it needs...it has had zero slippage or problems since the rebuild and I doubt it needs a total rebuild...any suggestions are welcome
