This is my first post on the bonny forum, I have enjoyed reading this forum for quite some time...
I have just come across ANOTHER example of *GM brillance* on my 2001 SSEI, [which is the use of these !$##***!! Torx Head Bolts !.] .
The idler pulley for my supercharger gave up the ghost and threw the belt off, and Lo and Behold, I found Torx head bolts on the idler AND tensioner pulleys.
After replacing the idler pulley, I ATTEMPTED to install the new belt by myself..
[If anybody out there that has done this job can probably understand], GM has taken a simple one man job and turned into a [2 man, 5minute job], simply due to the use of these Torx head bolts..
Does anyone know why GM is using TORX instead of just a regular bolt that you can use a socket ???
I know, I know, Torx are probably CHEAPER...

G.M. tends not to make user friendly cars, I think they want people to bring there cars back for repairs $$$$. I try to have all specialty tools, if not I buy it - Cheeper then paying a shop!

some i had to take out were torx with a little nib in the middle so i bought a small set from autozone, they do have a rather nice grip imo, unless they shear just after the thread

There'* a lot of them all over. I have all the sizes in sockets, a full set of security torx and a set of the screwdriver type. Wait till you run in to the male torx stud on the motor mount.

There'* a couple on the idlers or tensioners. And a couple maybe on the maf. Other than that our cars don't have much for torx head.

I hit a JY for the bolts off the NA cars, because it'* usually the reverse threaded tensioner bolt that is a torx. Pick up the 15mm headed one and replace. Cost me nearly zippo for a couple bolts and the time to harvest them.

Does anyone know of any parts stores that carry the 15MM reverse threaded bolts ?
If not, I guess I'll have to hit the junkyard like Bill.

BTW, I was able to get the belt installed, [with help from my son].

It'* just frustrating to me when I run across needless headache creation.

How many do you need, 2? I'll try and see how many I have laying around. I usually pick some up when I'm bored at the yard wating on a friend and remeber I'm running low.
