Default Tire changes?

It looks like time to replace the factory 235/55 17 RSA Eagles....got 30K out of them, probably could have got more but latched on to a big nail this week.

I was looking to do something different with the size...maybe 245/45 17 or the like. My concern is the diameter size change...the 55 series tires are 27.1" and the 45 series are 25.7" even going up to the 245'*.
I gotta wonder about the impact to the car; speedo error, computer / mileage...even to the "low tire pressure" check.

Anyone have any experience with this they could share?

Thanks, Earl

I would suggest something in black. Other than that, I'm not going to be much help, but I know SSEi95 did what I wanna do!

Was just looking at Tire racks site. Pretty good stuff on what will fit and what it looks like on the car. Hope this helps.

Sorry I'm late, hehe...

The handleing improvement is just incredable! I can take corners 20-30 mph faster than I could before. I might be able to get some video this next week of it'* handleing capabilities. The wider stance looks really wicked on the Bonneville too.
Mine are actually a bit worn now so it'* like running on racing slicks. WOT from the start and they damn near stick it! Squealing thru corners, almost never happens.

Now the down side of being so wide. Winter, enough siad. Ice, snow, even large puddles. Hydroplaining is easy to do if your not careful. The softer material in my tires also wears a bit faster than normal (burnouts don't help much either).

Default What tires did you go with Earl?

Earl,

I still have my original OEM 235/55 R17s and I have 39000 miles now. I've actually been really good on my tires and still have about 15000 or so miles left in them but I'm already looking at replacements as well. I was actually leaning toward Potenza RE950s in the 235/45/17 size. What size did you go with? I'm just curious to know.

Thanks!
