I'm not sure what some of the differences may be, but the best place to start is to look at the condition (color) and level of your fluid immediately after driving. Is it better or worse with a cold or hot trans?

Check that fluid after driving. Not just the level, but the smell and color. Harsh shifting can sometimes be blamed on suspended friction material from your clutches inside the trans. It may be time to do a fluid/filter change, but let'* see what it looks like first.
