Default Timing Chain

An Earlier post says the timing chain is good for the life of the motor. Is this the general consensus? Has anyone had one break on them? I have a 2000 with 144k - a little TLC needed but runs great. Any reason to replace the chain as preventative maintenance or am I just wasting money?

Thank you,

By our experience here, there'* no reason not to believe that it will last a good long time, if not the entire live of the motor. The tensioner does a good job of taking up any slack that may develop over time. If you were to tear into that part of the engine, you may want to at least inspect it, if not replace it. However, there would be no reason to do it just as a general maintenance item, especially as you're having no issues.
