Default Tail Light Bulbs

Hello all. So today I noticed that a few of my rear bulbs were not lighting up when I hit the brakes, but they did illuminate when the lights were turned on. Therefore I assume the 2-way feature of the bulbs has failed. I was just going to go ahead and replace all of them at the same time since its kind of a pain to do. I was wondering though, has anyone replaced there tail lights with LEDs? I tried doing some searching but didn't find much. My only concern is the 2-way feature of the bulb, would I have to get a specific type of LED replacement? Thanks for your thoughts.

Funny, you would think the LEDs would produce far more light. But I understand what you mean when it comes to dispersal. The real reason I was interested is due to the high-mount brake light. If your anal-retentive (like me) you'll notice that the center brake light comes on slightly quicker than the incandescent bulbs in the tail lights. I just thought it would be nice if they were all uniform when activated. Are the 3154KX just the standard replacement bulbs?

You may get a better response on this in the Electrical section.

Badnit has replaced and to my knowledge is happy (even though he doesn't know 3/4 of the time his 3rd brake light doesn't work.. :P )

Archon, I already knew how to replace the bulbs, but thanks for the link. It was very detailed but I'm confused about something. It says in the writeup that #3 is a side-marker light. According to the owners manual, there is no such light. The owners manual states that there are only four bulbs total in each rear light assembly. Does that change depending on the year?

Referring you there was to give you information on the bulb part numbers after you asked what the standard bulb numbers were. I'd have to pull out my owners manual, when I get a chance to see what it says but I've replaced the rear bulbs on two 2000 SSEis and they both have the marker lights.

Edit - Using the picture that you posted, see that rectangular area to the far right in the brake/tailight section? That'* where the marker light is. If you look closely from the outside (look from the side of the car) you may be able to see it. Being "anal retentive", if it is burned out - once you know that it is there, it will bother you until you replace it.

Im glad to know its there! lol. I guess they're both out on my car. Doesn't surprise me to see GM making a boo boo like that in the manual.

Oddly enough..looking at the arrows pointing to bulbs...in the right side..it looks like they point to it and not to one of the main bulbs.

I'm going to try and remember to check my books to see if it was a general printing error, or if it was just for some. It has piqued my curiosity. It would explain why I see so many with just the tails lit...if I were to believe that most read the manual.
