Supercharger coupler
Hi folks, I bought a 2001 SSEI with 139K miles on it over the weekend, and I have lots of little bugs, therefor I will be posting lots of problems here, so get your thinking caps on.
First off, I have a noise in my engine, I have done some research on it, and I am assuming it is the supercharger coupler, I have not had a chance to pull my belt and do the slack test on it yet. My main question is, when the coupler is bad, does the sound keep the same volume level do it, or does it get louder and quieter? The reason I ask is, when I first start the car it makes a god awful noise, after I rev it up a couple of times then I only the hear the normal grumble that sounds like a bad coupler. as soon as I start the car, I get good oil pressure, on the interstate the gauge reads right at the edge of the mark that'* halfway between 40 and 120 PSI, the way the scale is set up on the pressure, I am not even sure what PSI that would be, LOL, thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, it definately has slack in it, and rattles like crazy with the belt removed, but what i was really trying to find was does it make the same level of noise all of the time? My car has a really loud noise upon startup, then quietens down after 10 or 15 seconds and makes the rocks in the supercharger sound
You can leave that belt disconnected when you start it up. If the noise is gone, its the */C.
If you really want to, you can leave the belt completely off without harm to the engine. You may notice a slight increase in fuel economy though.

If the */C isn't pushing air in, the MAF won't see the increased airflow which the PCM sees, when it does see increased airflow, it dumps more fuel. Less airflow=less fuel dumped.
Hmm makes sense, i am driving the car 100 miles a day round trip to work, so every extra mile per gallon i get is a plus. My next problem is to find the cause of my p 0171 code
