Unhappy Sunroof Problems Won't go shut right

Okay, so I have had trouble with my sunroof for the last week or so, but now it is worse. I opened my sunroof to enjoy a nice 50 degree day. When I opened it the gears ground like they usually do when I haven't used the roof in a while. No big deal really just irritating and something on my list of problems to solve. Well I get back home and go to shut the roof and it only goes shut half way. So I open it back up again and the gears grind again, I try to shut it and it shuts a little more. I repeat the process until the glass pane is all the way closed. Problem is, the window did the little raise up and drop routine only instead of dropping enough to seal, it drops all the way down like it was going to open again. What is going on here? I got it to go in the right position, but it definitely shouldn't be doing that. The car only has about 111K on it and it seems to have little gremlins like this coming out of the plastic works. I am pretty sure that is to blame on the previous owners as it is evidenced that they didn't take care of the car as good as they should have. What should I do with this sunroof?

Sounds fubared. Could be debris in the rear of the track. I wouldn't keep unsealing it and grinding the gears. Once the gears start to grind, its only going to get worse.

If I remember right, this is a limit switch problem. A gear jumped a few teeth and it'* location is lost. I believe you can drop the head liner and inspect the tracks and line it back up.

I'll try that. Does anybody know how to drop the headliner?
I only really know how to work on old cars and I want it to look right when I put it together.

I was kinda wondering if there was a little debris in there, because my wind screen was missing chunks of plastic and I don't know where they went. I know I shouldn't grind the gears, but its going to rain here tomorrow and I have to drive this car because my dad is driving my Grand prix. At least I got it to go shut, for a while there I was afraid it wasn't even going to do that LOL .
