It depends on what is broke.
If it will close, but leaks around the seal it needs to be adjusted.
If it'* leaking inside at the front corner or rear corners, the drain tubes are plugged or disconnected.
If it will not close or open, it'* electrical - fuse, wires, switch.
If the frame rails are damaged, they will need to be replaced.

The problem is that a piece of black plastic fell out of what the dealer calls the sunroof track. This is the second time it has happened - piece came from the same spot both times. It was under warranty the first time and now isn't. Dealer says I need to replace the track for $1350. Is that what you are calling "rails" and if so, where do I get them?

The sunroof track/rails is in the frame. You can go to a junk yard and see if you can get a used one, or you can get a new one on-line at GM Parts - GM Auto Parts - GM Parts House USA
They want $885 for it, and would be cheaper than getting one from your local dealer.

Connie, I moved your question out of General Chat and put it into the 2000-2005 section. This alerts our technical experts (gearheads) that your question relates to an issue with your car, rather than just a chat topic. Your issues will get more attention that way.

If you could take a picture of the black plastic part, it might help us. To my knowledge, the track is aluminum. The black plastic part might be the wind deflector, which can removed with no ill effect to the operation of the sunroof.

I'll try to take a picture of it. The piece looks like a small "tab" and I believe the one on the driver side is still intact. The piece fell out of the front part of the sunroof one day when I opened it up (this is how it happened both times). I will look at it tonight to see if the driver side is intact and what the piece does - if I can tell.

I was speaking about the person who started that thread. Not all problems invoving a sunroof. I think we got off on the wrong foot with each other here. We want to help all we can, but demeaning and griping doesnt make a problem go away. I have my own reasons why I wont go back to a GM product. I just bought a Toyota Prius for daily driving and keep the miles down on my GXP down. We arent here to fly the GM banner, nor are we a conduit for GM bashing. We have what we have and just trying to help. The window slides on a track that runs front to back, on plastic tabs, the wind deflector is a plastic Piece that pops up when you open the glass. I assume it is one of the plastic pieces that glide along the track as it open'*/closes? Does it still operate? Close all the way and leak? You pulled up an older thread about one specific problem and not giving us real clear symptoms of yours.

There are some plastic pieces on top of the rails. I've had mine broke for over a year now and it does not affect the opening or closing of the sun roof. I picture would be very helpfull. If the roof wont open or close right, you might have a piece of the plastic jammed or pinched in the mechanism, etc.

The issue I'm having is that the sunroof leaks. It was also setting lower than it should have, but the dealer adjusted some screws and it sits flush for now. I say for now because the screws have been adjusted before. It will open and shut and flip up. The plastic piece is definitely from the track, not the deflector. Hope that helps.
