Steering vibration low speeds
Hey all, new here, just bought a 2k SSEI and i have me a problem with i think the power steering. Its only at low speeds, i get a roughness in the wheel and sometimes a little noise. The engine also bogs with a little turning, as if the wheel was turned lock to lock, yet its not. i checked fluid, added to level and then still the same thing. I ve had the car 2 weeks, and 3 days after i had it i started feeling the Intermediate shaft, so that has been done. now i have this, any help would be awesome.

It just may be your high pressure power steering pump hose. I believe there is a tech bulletin about a revised hose that eliminates that vibration. I think the new hose is thicker. While you are down there those hoses have been known to seep and leak at the collar that crimps and seals the rubber hose to the steel line running to the rack. I've owned a '92 and now an '01, both with leaking hoses at that point. Easy fix for the average DIY'er. I'm getting ready to order the revised replacement hose in a few days.

My wife'* '01 SE had the same problem,.....steering wheel would vibrate/quiver (does fee and act like the car was low on power steering fluid......but the fluidt Wasn't low) when doing very low-speed maneuvers such as leaving a curb-side parking space(or backing into one),making a turn after leaving a stopsign/trafficlight,etc,etc,.........there is a TSB on the problem and was fixed by replacing power steering hoses with thicker, upgraded ones.My '00 SSEi however didn't have the problem when I bought it with 36 K miles on it(possibly the first owner had the TSB problem fixed before I bought the car?),........both my car and my wife'* car had new intermediate steering shafts replaced under warranty.
