I'm not sure I completely understand your question, but I cut the black cover, removed bolt under the cover, and the one at the rack, then pulled the shaft out. The clear cover that goes thru the FW has room for the joint to pass through.

GM service Manual says to remove column and intermediate shaft together. Hopefully all is fine. I'm sure you need to replace cover as well

Hi .Thank you for your message and thay is what I wanted to know.
I was not sure the ISS could be taken out from under the dash.
Another member told me the shop manual write up mentioned to take the whole steering collum
out togethet with the ISS but I guess that is if you do not want to cut the black dustcover.

I did the "dust cover delete" mod! I suppose it could be duct taped or zip tied if you wish. I didn't notice any drafts under there this winter.
