Default Spirit of Bonneville

Anybody know where I can find info the The Spirit of Bonneville? From what I've heard its the first FWD production car to break 200 mph, but I can't even find a webpage on it. Any help?

Didn't that happen at the Bonneville Salt flats?

Try looking that up.

Perhaps if GM took advantage of these things in their advertising (if they had any recent ones for the Bonnevilles) they'd still be making them.

That'* exactly what I was thinking. Maybe some rich exec, upon seeing the cool commercial with a "late model muscle sedan" doin 200+ would've picked one up along with his mercedes......and if that woulda happened I probably couldn't have afforded a used one, but what the hey!

Pontiac sent that car primarily for R&D purposes, and I think they made some partnerships for that run that they normally wouldn't condone (performance aftermarket types). GM understands the value of the performance aftermarket, but obviously can't come out and say it publicly.

The car was fairly well modified, including the final drive ratio.

Anyone have a link to the car that would make a decent wallpaper?

I think the V series of cadillac, and the effort being put forth to make an SS in every class is pretty much saying it. And it'* too bad they don't, because Roush and Steeda have done pretty well thanks to Ford....
