Default Speedometer not working

Just been given a 2005 bonneville and the speedometer doesn't work. Also the gas gauge is reading inaccuratly. Any ideas how i can fix this problem. thanks

moved your post to it'* own thread to get ya better help and attention.

the fuel gauge will most likely be the level sensor on the sending unit. the speedo not working could possibly be the vehicle speed sensor on the tail of the trans

Check the speed sensor. Jack up the car and look on the passenger side. Follow the axle to the differential. On top of that you will see the sensor plug. make sure it'* plugged in.

The speedo on my '87 Olds didn't work, it turned out the fuse for the cruise control had blown. Might be worth checking the fuses before getting under your car.

if the vss was unplugged or bad the trans would be acting funny, since he didnt mention that, its likely something in the dash pod or wireing not related to the vss to the pcm

I changed the speed sensor and the speedometer still broken. Someone know if i have to set the sensor or not. Going to the dealership tomorrow to pick up fuel sender part # 15824379 for the gas gauge. thanks

There'* nothing to set. The sensor simply counts pulses as a reluctor wheel moves past it. If the sensor wasn't the problem, I would test the wires to make sure nothing is broken. After that it'* the gauge.

Checked the wires, fuses now left with no choice but to take to a machanic. Thanks for your help.
