Default spark plugs and wires

How often do most of us on here do tune ups?? I have got a miss and I did a tune last summer. Is that about right or what. I have heard that our cars go through the plugs, any truth to that?? Any ideas??

Thanks,

Tim

What plugs and wires are on the car? Any of them touching any metal? Try spraying a light mist of water over them in the dark to look for arcing.

How did you come to the conclusion of a miss? Misfire code? Felt it?

the plugs are NGK TR55'*, and the wires are Belden Premiums.

I felt the miss. Today I noticed something more unusual though. At around 30 mph, the car has a shake to it. Like a really really bad miss. I also noticed something else, keeping steady throttle pressure I can hear the engine racing up and down, very slight but noticeable just the same. I started watching the tach and there is no change in the rpm'*, but I can hear the engine reving up and down. Is this what I heard about on here known as "hunting rpm'*"?? I had the tires balanced Friday and that is all that'* been done to the car for awhile. (I have had no reason to do anything as it has been running like a top). You guys got any ideas??

Thanks for the interest,

Tim

I was wondering about how often tune-ups should be done too. It'* been about 2 years since I did mine and was curious if I'm due.

I did my tune up at 51k miles and don't intend on having to do it before another 50k.

There are so many things that could cause these general symptoms... in my own experience it'* been a cracked plug, failed MAF sensor, and I think I remember it running rough when the LIM & UIM gaskets failed.

re: the racing throttle description...tires wouldn't affect that...it seems that a sensor of some sort would. Has it blown a check engine code yet? If it does - get it scanned at Auto Zone or Advance Auto (for free). That will help to pinpoint it.
