now this is gettiong mighty interesting... im going to have to research this further, as to why an SSEi would not have it but an SE would.. you would think that with the extra air and fuel flow, that the SSEi would need more emissions controls than an SE/SLE

I don't recall what the code for CA emissions is. You may have that if it was originally intended to be a corporate car.

The 2000 had two different cats available. One with CA emissions and one without (the rear exhaust manifold was also different on the L36 in 2000 if it had CA emissions).

Two different cats for the SE in 2000 (CA and otherwise)
Another for 01-03
Another for 04-05

Two different cats for 2000 SSEi'* and SLE'* (CA and otherwise)
Another cat for 2001
Yet another cat for 2002-2003.

my car was initially registered as a rental according to my carfax, the only reason that i think that california emmissions is not the explaination, is that Gumball, and Singscountrys 00 SLEs both have the airpump aswell.. i think it would be a longshot that all three have california emissions.. ill go check my book to find out if i have the RPO for it, and get back to you

ok, my RPO sticker is worn badly, so i can not read the code, however, the catalyst sticker says the car conforms to cali emissions spec. I need jim and tracy to see if they have NB8 (Cali-emissions override) NC1 (california emissions, LEV) or NC8 (california emissions ULEV)

According to my books, all 2000-3 SSEi'*, 00 to 05 SLE'* and SE'* should all have that air pump. The truncated cone is the filter for it.

It'* listed as an emissions device for all models, all years from 2k up, including the GXP, which has a different part number. The 04 and 05 may not have the filter, but still have the pump on either the V6 or the V8.
