Default Some Quetions to the Experts about my "new" SSEi

Hello Everyone! Just bought a "new" (to me) 2000 SSEi..............Wow! Great Car! impressive performance and certainly turns heads (black with factory chrome 17" wheels). Hard to sit at the computer long enough to type this (must......drive...car........need.....boost) but I have a few questions:
1. What kind of things can I look forward to reliability wise: trans problems,sc problems, etc?
This i sa high mileage car 125K but one owner and all freeway miles.
2. I see supercharger pulleys talked about.does this increase performace greatly? How?
will it cause reliability problems?
3. I see you talking about exhausts and resonators: mine has a cat, then a long muffler and finally 2 mufflers at the the tailpipes. Are those the resonators?
4. It has a light clunking (you can barely hear it,you feel it in the steering wheel more than anything else) when turning or over bumps; Is this the intermediate shaft you speak of?
5. I have more questions but the car is calling me.........got to go for a cruise. Thanks for your help and I'm sure I'll be talking to all you experts out there a lot!

The Supercharger will most likely outlast your car. The tranny will most likely give you problems in one form or another if you push it hard.

3.4 pulley and CAI or FWI will give you about 30HP and 50lb/tq. You will feel it. The increased torque may cause problems with the tranny on a high milage car if it has been stressed before.

The long muffler you speak of is your resonator.

Yes

Loaded up 2000 SSEI'* ARE nice cars!(...of course I might be a little biased towards them ),......your car has qiute a few miles,(unless it'* already been done on a scheduled basis)you probably want to change the transmission fluid and filter,as well as the supercharger'* lube/oil,........and keep a close watch(or ear)on the plastic[can be replaced with metal ones] belt- tensioner pulley...the bearings have been known to seize up(sometimes with very little prior warning/noise),shatter,and toss the belt off as you're whistling down the highway, causing All kinds of headaches.Gotta love those 17" chrome rims!! ,........have fun, enjoy the ride!!

Default questions about my ssei

Thanks for all the welcomes and good advice. I appreciate it. As far as the 3.4 pulley,I may wait awhile because I really would hate to have to replace the trans (I bet it'* $$$$$$$$). It is pretty quick as is.............I kept up no problem with a brand new Mustang GT , we went at it from about 60 MPH and while I could not pass him,
he could not get away from me at all! Boy, I ruined his afternoon.......he was probably bragging about how fast his car was when up from behind this big 4 door comes up and he cant shake it! Oh that'* fun!!! Gotta be careful out in So Cal,in certain areas they can seize your vehicle on the spot if they determine you are drag racing........
not like when we were kids,I guess..............anyway, a couple more questions please:
1) as far as the intermediate shaft business goes,is this problem dangerous? What exactly is wrong? Expensive to fix?
2) all the cold air intakes I have seen consist of a cone filter and tubing of some sort, with the filter open in the engine compartment.Um,I may be missing something but isn't that taking in hot underhood air? I think the stock airbox exits (or inlets, actually) outside of the engine compartment,no?
BTW you guys sure do have some great looking cars!
Thanks again!

The intermediate shaft isn't dangerous(the one in my wife'* '01 SE started 'grinding',..the Pontiac dealer service manager said it wasn't dangerous, kept right on driving the car until the right parts came into the dealership, then they replaced it[under warranty, don't know the cost],........but my '00 SSEi is doing the same thing, and it too will be replaced under my GM Extended Warranty for the $50 deductable fee.I'm not worried at all about the grating/grinding noise being unsafe.......it'* just annoying,......I'll see about getting it fixed at some point in time(before the warranty runs out).BTW,...if you are getting the steering shaft fixed....DON'T let the dealership tell you they are going to 'fix'the problem with their special 'magic grease',........they used it on my wife'* car.......it took care of the noise/problem for about 6 months, then it wore off......they replaced the shaft the second time I brought the car in for the problem......

Gotta watch for transmission problems around 50K, worn-out front wheel hubs, and broken power window motor/ regulator units.

I HOPE that'* all!

With 125k you've got less miles-per-year than my 1999. I've got just about 163k on it now (will hit 164 probably on Thursday on my way to see Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allmen Brothers, John Foggerty, and many of the good ol boys (just wish I could get there the first day -ZZTop and 8oo8ies a man could ever want).

The trans in my 99 SSEi was rebuilt (due to some whining) at 135k, and again at 142k due to reuse of a bearing which grenaded, and now I have a fully rebuilt trans.

I have 122k on mine and I'll soon be changing out my 2nd wheel bearing on the drivers side. Other than that the brakes need attention as well the steering end links. It sounds like your intermidiate shaft is gone? Search and you will find the part# and procedure for fixing it.

mine has 57,000 miles on her and as of right now she hasn't given me any problem other than the service stability system code i got when i first bought her and the dealer fixed that. i think i know what your talking about the boing sound cause the other day when i drove her and i felt it til the car warmed up. not sure thou she had set in the garage for about 2 months without being driven then. but if it'* question you've got this is the best place to find the answers. we're not out to get you to spend more money, in fact we'll help you save it in most cases. Also watch those county mounties they love to pull the bonnies over just for prestige points.lol
