Now that the water leaks are fixed (disconnected front sunroof drain tubes), the driver'* seat heater is working (broken wires at connection to 2 of the 3 heating elements in the cushion), the failed windshield wiper motor was replaced, and I will be fixing the failed fuel level sensor this weekend, its time to get my traction control and stability systems working. The Service Stability System warning has been on for probably a year now. I miss ABS in the icy Detroit winter.

I realize a normal scanner will not pick up the body codes I need to see what the problem is, and that a Tech II scanner is required. I called my local garage, and he tells me he doesn't have a Tech II scanner, but he does have a Snap On scanner that should read the codes.

Is this true, or do I have to find someone with a Tech II scanner?

I have the FSM to interpret the codes. Can the problem (wheel sensors, steering wheel position sensor, accelerometer, or yaw sensors) be nailed down based on the codes, or is further diagnosis required?

By the way, this forum rocks, and the tech guys who take time to help us are awesome. Everything I fixed on my car was done after exhaustive reading of all the related threads in this forum, and I get my parts from Rock Auto at a discount thanks to this forum.

The Tech II scanner can 'ping' individual components, communications loops and devices. I'm not familiar with the Snap On Scanner. Try contacting a GM dealer. They have Tech II and I think the money spent to find the problem will be well worth your time.

Some Snap on scanner can be equiped to read and see all these things. I know that the Modis can show you Live stream data on diferent sensors and you can tap into sensors directly and get an on screen graph to compare with the value specification. But, this is only if the owner of the modis has spent the money to update the tool and has taken the time to learn howw to use it in this matter.

I think I spent in the neighborhood of $200+ to have my system checked and all they could do was re-flash the computer. Then after a couple of days the thing just went back to the old message. Of course the next step was to start replacing sensors to the potential tune of $3000 depending on how many they replace.

I was so disappointed that a Pontiac computer that you pay to have check your problem couldn't isolate the actual problem. Isn't that pathetic?

I am still open to any suggestions on where to start for this particular warning. What is worse is that damn ding ding ding when you are driving the dang thing.

Start a new thread for your issue, and I'm pretty sure we can get you on the right path for a lot less than $3,000.

LF hub was replaced at 50K mi. It is fine as far as I know.

Rotors are all new at 103K mi. ABS?? I know that all the brakes were replaced but is there a sensor on the abs that is affecting the stability control?

each wheel bearing has a wheel speed sensor built into it ,,,,, if one is bad you will get a service stability system in the info display alont with your abs light, trac light and tac off light

actually,,, the more I think about it,,,, if you have the trac lights on,,,,, that should narrow it to the front of the car

there are multiple things that can have your ABS, Trac Off and Brake Lights on. These are all in conjunction with your Stability system. It could be the Steering wheel position Sensor, rear Yaw rate sensor, Brake switch, EBTCM or wheel bearings
