Yes its like that-- do you think its in the remote-- I think the batterys low could that be why?

The chip should be in the key. The I don't believe the FOB controls the security system. But I guess changing the battery will do no harm.

Ya, that my key--Changed the battery and still when It'* realy COLD this "service security system" message is displayed when i start my car--any ideas?

The 2000+* use a different system. It'* a bit more complicated by using an exciter module in the ignition switch to activate the transponder in the key. It cold temperatures, something happens with the voltage to the exciter, and the system displays the security light. In short, what you are experiencing is almost "normal" in cold weather.

my 2000 ssei does the same thing when its cold. if your key says pk3 (pass key three) on it, then it is a chipped key.

The only information I have on disabling a VATs system covers 92-99, I'm still looking for something to cover 2000+
