P0336 cpk performance
i have had this code come on for two years,i do not think the sensor is bad since it has happend so long, could this possibly be a bad ground near the ICM causing the code to kick off, also my car RPM'* drop to zero when idle,or driving sometimes car stalls or keeps going, sometimes car will start right back up or will not start and i crank it so much it kills the battery.any help would be great.
thank you.

ok what does all that mean?? it does it mostly 99% of the time on cold starts if the car has been sitting for more then 4 hours, after it does what it does the car runs fine and will not do it again till the next cold start in the morning like every morning almost.

I have a 2001 SLE with pretty much the same symptoms. Replaced plugs, wires, and ignition module with no improvement. Finally replaced the crankshaft position sensor and so far no more problems. On Jan 5 2010 I posted on this site my symptoms and how I replaced it.
Good Luck!

Frequently that code does point to a bad crankshaft sensor. Orrrrrrr maybe a dirty sensor. The sensor is basically a magnet and shavings etc can collect on it. In many cases I wonder if it'* not the stuff on the magnet becoming magnatised and causing a false reading that causes these types of issues.

I have wondered the same thing about what oil and dirt accumulating on the sensor and the back of the harmonic balancer might do to the magnetic fields . Hard to imagine that 2 parts that never have physical contact with one another could out of the blue intemittently fail. In my case the shiny steel fins on the back side of the harmonic balancer were pretty dirty with oil and dirt which may have contributed to the problem of random stalls and no starts by possibly interupting the magnetic fields more then if the dirt was not there. Thinking the engineers felt it was pretty important to keep dirt out of that area and that is why they put a shield behind the harmonic balancer.

The sensor is external to the motor and does not see any oil. So it'* purely anything that might make it'* way behind the shield and balancer. Think of it like the engine block and subframe. While we never submerse them in dirt etc...they always get dirty.
