Reverse Problems

I have a 2001 Bonneville that just suddenly started giving reverse problems. It shifts and pulls fine in forward with no problems at all. It just started "slipping" when in reverse. It is worse after the fluid heats up, and sometimes it won't move unless it's on flat ground.

Is this a transmission issue or could it be some type of controller? This is my first Bonneville, so I'm not familiar with the engine or transmission.

I appreciate any replies.

New Development today. The speedometer went crazy. Still no problems with transmission in forward, but now when you are going 20, the speedometer shows 60. Also, the oil pressure guage is pegged out, but it's been like that for awhile.

Talked to a local transmision ship today and they told me the band that wraps around the drum in the transmission for reverse is probably broken on one end. He said it wraps the drum three times and that is why it would still pull a llittle. Told me that if I pull it and bring it to him, he would replace the band and gaskets/seals for $180.00. Not too bad, but now I'm not sure whether or not to just have it rebuilt. With 105K miles, I probably might as well.

Any comments appreciated.

are you sure that your are in "MPH" and not in "KPH"?????

and the OP gague is the sender...when the sender fails it will give the default MAX reading....the sender is a $30 part and its a easy change ;)
