I have a few things in the trunk/ I notice when stopped at a light the rear shocks occasionally shudder- as if the rear of the car was just lightly rear ended. I don't suspect this is normal. Are my rear shocks going, or do I need to perform some maintenance?

Your ELC might be goofing up on you. It'* a switch in the left rear wheel well. There is a rod that connect to your control arm. See if that rod got damaged or disconnected and then test the switch.
